Facility Inspections

Grade: B

While we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable health inspections in recent years. We gave it a B in this category, which was much better than its overall score. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility's next highest category turned out to be its short-term care score, where it was awarded a grade of C. Our short-term care grade is typically used to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. We found that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's second lowest category was long-term care, where it received just a D in that area. This is a well below average score. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated only 79.439255 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The final area we rated was nursing, proved to be this facility's weakest category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that area. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. In addition to its below average nursing hours, this place also earned suboptimal scores in some of the quality-based measures we considered in determining our nursing scores. We found that more of this facility's residents sustained falls which led to serious injury. We believe that many falls could be prevented with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this place receiving a poor nursing rating.
