Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this proved to be a decent nursing home is that it earned a very favorable inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a B+. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's better category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. It actually outpaced most nursing homes in this area. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 97.1831 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is far below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It scored well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated was short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a D in that area. With our short-term care category, we try to create a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Given its poor score in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this place provided significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
