Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection grades are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A+. The nursing score is based on several datapoints, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided 5.9 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the better totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by both of these figures. On top of offering high levels of care, this place was also above average in several of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a grade of of A+ for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. It outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 66.5 percent of its residents returning home. This is a substantially higher rate than most nursing homes.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it an A- for this category. This finalized truly elite report card. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. In addition to patient-friendly nursing hour statistics, this facility's vaccination data is as good as it gets as well. In fact, it vaccinated 99.65636 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.88 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility was just about middle of the road in this area.
