Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we awarded this facility an A. Our nursing score includes quite a few components, but the primary one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning a resident at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its high-end profile, this nursing home also received an excellent long-term care grade, with a score of A. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. Once we assessed the amount of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In the last category we assessed, this nursing home was given an impressive grade grade of A in our short-term care category. With this grade, the nursing home wrapped up a straight A profile. In determining our short-term care grades, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is generally a meaningful assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
