We want to point out that this facility earned a much better grade for short-term care than its overall score. It received one of our best scores in that category with an A-. Our short-term care grades are considered to be most meaningful for people needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Illinois in this area with 61.3 percent of its residents returning home.

Inspections is another area where this nursing home excelled. We awarded this facility an B+ for our inspections category. This score is far more impressive than its overall grade. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. Our nursing score includes many subcategories, however, the most important one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is far below average. Finally, we look at quality-based metrics, such as the percentage of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these datapoints are indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Historical

Turning to our final area, this facility really did not fare very well. Due to a very poor grade of F in long-term care, this was this nursing home's weakest area. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 96.401024 percent of its patients, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.34 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
