Long-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Adding to this nursing home's impressive resume, we gave this facility an A for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Does this page answer your questions about Avante at St Cloud?
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. There are a host of factors included in this area. Many of the criteria relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Florida in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving a resident at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed is short-term care. This nursing home was awarded an above average short-term care grade in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Even though this is not nearly as elite as some of its other category grades, this remains a decent grade for this category. Our short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.
