Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home also earned top notch health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our best grades in that category, with a grade of A+. Inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility was given strong grades in the category of long-term care as well. Indeed, we awarded it one of our best scores in that area with a area of A-. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 84.01254 percent of its residents, which is slightly lower than we expected. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. The nursing rating features a number of subcategories. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we looked at is short-term care, was this nursing home's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a D in this category. This is one of just a few weak links on a quality report card. Our short-term care scores are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. It looks like this place was subpar in many staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.9 percent of its residents returning home.
