Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a strong nursing home overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Not many facilities fared better in that area. Our inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also was given a favorable short-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Our short-term care scores are presumably most meaningful for individuals in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home is also above average in the area of long-term care, where it was given a score of B+. It outpaced most facilities in this area. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.3165 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next area we rated is nursing, in which this nursing home was awarded a B. This nursing home didn't prove to have any noticeable weaknesses. In calculating our nursing grades, we analyze both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
