Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of receiving a great overall score, this nursing home received an A+ in our short-term care category. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 6.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. The nursing rating assesses quite a few subcategories, but the primary one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning patients even once per day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on the nursing home's recent inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection grades are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we looked at was nursing, is this facility's weakest area. We gave this facility a D in this category. This was one of the couple of dings in an otherwise impressive profile. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 99.46809 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
