Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a decent short-term care rating this year. We gave it a B- in that category. Our short-term care grades are arguably more important for folks in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Our nursing score is primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided just 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is far below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, this facility didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. We gave it a grade of just D for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. Generally, you should be most cautious when considering a facility that has severe deficiencies on a recent inspection report. This nursing home was hit with 6 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, we also need to point out that this place was assessed significant government fines of more than $100,000. This usually suggests that a facility's bad performance spanned multiple years.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is long-term care. This nursing home received a very poor grade of F in that category. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.21429 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
