Registered Staff Hours
In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this place also excelled in our inspections category, where it earned an A. Not many nursing homes fared better in that category. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A few relatively minor dings aren't something to panic about.
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Nursing ratings are largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning a resident more often.

Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was short-term care. It received one of our better grades in that category, with a A-. Our short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final category, we gave this nursing home a grade of D for long-term care. This is the nursing home's least impressive category rating. However, we wouldn't dwell on one poor grade. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the criteria we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
