Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility has received near flawless health inspections recently. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to emphasize the fact that this nursing home was given a first-rate grade of A- in our short-term care area. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. One of this place's strengths is physical therapy. We found it offers at least 50% more hours with physical therapists as most nursing homes. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in New York in this area with 63.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on our next category, we gave this nursing home a score of A- for its long-term care grade. This is a very impressive score. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After considering the impressive nursing hours provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.72 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
In our final category, this nursing home also was given an impressive nursing grade, with a B+. This rounded out a very impressive report card. There are a host of data points within this area. Most of these factors relate to nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 4.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the highest totals we found. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility the nation in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as good measures of the quality of nursing care offered.
