Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note this nursing home's abysmal short-term care grade where it received an F. In calculating our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 5.2 percent of its residents returning home. This was quite a bit below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Another unfortunate development is the F this facility received in the area of long-term care. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 96.5368 percent of its residents, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the final category, this facility really didn't perform very well in this category either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is just about as as uninspiring as it gets. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This place provided only 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This place fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
