Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections category. This grade is much more impressive than the facility's overall grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. This facility was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's short-term care score appears to be one of its more favorable grades. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. We analyzed the licensure of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with residents, in determining our grade in this area. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we graded was long-term care. It received an F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. Nursing homes that don't fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. After we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated only 87.87879 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
