Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although this facility's overall score was terrible, it performed pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. Nursing ratings are primarily based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Our next area we looked at was long-term care, where this nursing home received an F. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the place is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were concerned by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated only 81.46965 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to the last category, this facility didn't perform very well in this area either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is really as bad as it gets. In calculating these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. With a grade this poor for this category, we were not shocked to discover that this place was below average in multiple staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
