This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

The next most favorable area we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a C. In calculating our short-term care scores, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is more often than not a meaningful assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. We were extremely impressed to find that this facility offers its residents substantially more physical therapist hours than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This place performed respectably in this area with 48.4 percent of its residents returning home.

The third category we analyzed is long-term care, where this nursing home was given a C in this area. With our long-term care score, we look at the quantity of services offered by a facility, along with some qualitative statistics. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 99.64286 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.83 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility was not too far off the national average.

Turning to the last area, this nursing home was given a C for nursing, which is a respectable grade. There are a host of subcategories included in this grade. Most of the subcategories reflect staffing levels. This facility provides 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is better than average. In calculating our scores, we add more weight to hours performed by more highly trained nurses such as registered nurses. Finally, we also looked at a few quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility was above average in many of the major areas we focus on, with good scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
