Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to draw your attention to its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the category of long-term care, this facility was given just a D in this category. Unfortunately, this wound up being one of its better features. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.12664 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's second lowest score was short-term care, where it earned just a D in that area. This is a well below average grade. In determining our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. With its score in this category, we were not surprised to find that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected here. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest area is nursing, which is the final area we assessed. In this category, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. In determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we weigh the number of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
