Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To pair with a favorable overall score, we gave this facility an A+ for our inspection category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its first-rate achievements in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a score of A- for its long-term care grade. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 93.31619 percent of its residents. This is a bit below what we expected but still a decent figure. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our nursing rating weighs a number of factors. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving patients more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final category we scored is short-term care. This facility was given a better than average nursing rating this year, with a grade of B. Even though this is not as strong as a few of its other grades, this is nevertheless one of the more favorable scores for this category. Our short-term care grades are considered to be more meaningful for folks in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually requires more skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.
