Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this area. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area typically have few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A few minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
Another reason we rated this facility so favorably is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as dominant as it gets in this category. Our short-term care grade is often used to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 7.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning patients more often.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at is long-term care. We awarded this nursing home one of our better grades in this category, with a B. Even though this is not as dominant as a few of this nursing home's other grades, it is nevertheless a positive grade. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
