Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category, with an A+. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is certainly a good sign for the quality of care at this nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we also wanted to point out that this facility received favorable long-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our better grades in this area, with a B+. This proved to be the nursing home's second highest grade. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Next we looked at nursing grades, where this nursing home received an F, which is a rock bottom grade. This area was definitely not a strength for this facility. When computing our nursing scores, we weigh both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was short-term care. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is certainly a significant disappointment. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Considering its poor grade in this category, we were not stunned to discover this facility provided significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 2.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
