Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Although we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this was still a relatively positive inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility was given its next best category grade in the area of long-term care. We gave this facility a B- in this category, which is an acceptable grade. Our long-term care ratings are important for residents in need of personal care. After considering the volume of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinates 96.50582 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only earned a D for its short-term care grade, which is not a very good score. Our short-term care scores are likely more critical for residents needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this facility offers substantially less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last area we assessed is nursing. This facility received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this category. In computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we assess the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home averaged just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is well below average. In addition to receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing scores.
