Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

To go along with its favorable overall score, we gave this place a grade of A+ for inspections. Inspection grades are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also received a fine long-term care grade. In fact, this turned out to be this nursing home's second most impressive category grade. In that area, this facility received a score of A-. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of assessing the impressive volume of care provided by aids and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the nursing home's vaccination statistics. By way of example, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. While it had 1.87 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was better than the majority of nursing homes due to it having more complicated patients.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. We analyzed the levels of nurses working for the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with patients, in calculating our grade in this category. This facility provides a very impressive 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is among the more impressive totals in the country. Finally, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents sustaining falls leading to serious injury, this facility performed better than the national average. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we rated was short-term care. In this area, we gave this facility a decent grade of B-. This turned out to be this nursing home's worst category. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most critical for those in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This place performed respectably in this area with 46.7 percent of its residents returning home.
