Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections category. This was the result of the nursing home receiving a quality government inspection report this year. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. This place was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this facility just a D for our long-term care rating and that actually wound up as its second most respectable score. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. When determining our nursing scores, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. With just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we looked at is short-term care, where this facility was given a rock bottom score in this area also. We gave it an F for this area, which is definitely a major concern. With our short-term care score, we seek to forge a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
