Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In addition to receiving a strong overall score, this nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. The nursing rating weighs many factors, but the main one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections. We gave it an A- for that area, which is one of our highest grades. This is one of the few nursing homes with an overall grade in this range which received multiple category grades this high. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The third area we looked at is short-term care. This facility was given an above average short-term care score, with a B+ in the area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to our fourth area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D in long-term care. This was the nursing home's worst category score. Naturally, this category pulled down the facility's overall profile to some degree. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
