Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While this facility's overall score was terrible, it fared pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this was still a relatively favorable inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this facility's second most respectable category is long-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared relatively poorly. For residents looking for a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. After we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinates 96.74797 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Another issue was the F this facility was given in the category of short-term care. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This area is typically a solid assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. With its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this place is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next area we looked at is nursing, where this facility received a bottom of the barrel grade in this area as well. We gave it an F in this area, which is obviously a major concern. The nursing score consists of many components, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
