Facility Inspections

Grade: B

While this facility's overall score was terrible, it fared pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this was still a relatively favorable inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this facility's second most respectable category is short-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared relatively poorly. Short-term care grades are critical for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Based on its score in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the area of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in this category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 96.42857 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to our fourth area, we awarded this nursing home a D in the area of nursing. This was the nursing home's weakest category rating. Our nursing grade assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. To go along with its below average totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this facility had really poor marks in many of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients having falls leading to serious injury. This facility was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
