Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To pair with a favorable overall score, we awarded this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also performed well in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Few nursing homes received a better grade in this category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is too frequently a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our nursing rating looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we graded is short-term care. This facility received an above average short-term care grade this year, with a B-. While this isn't as impressive as many of its other grades, this is still a respectable rating for that area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
