Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded an impressive short-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B+. With our short-term care category, we attempt to create a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. One reason for this place's impressive grade in short-term care is that it provides a substantially larger volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average facility. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Florida in this area with 65.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. There are numerous factors included in this category. Many of the factors relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place offers an impressive 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is among the highest totals in the state. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any facility the state when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we graded was long-term care. We gave this facility one of our more favorable scores in this category, with a B. This nursing home ended up being relatively strong in each area we assessed. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of considering the well above average quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff at this nursing home, we also were happy with the nursing home's vaccination statistics. By way of example, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.88 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility is just about middle of the road in this area.
