Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also received an A+ long-term care grade, making it one of the few facilities to be given several A+ category scores. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. One of the statistics we considered after this facility's impressive nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.48849 percent of its patients. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for seniors. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.91 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this place was just about middle of the road in this area.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. The nursing rating analyzes a handful of datapoints, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is much more care than what is provided by most facilities. Lastly, this place also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In our final category, this nursing home also was given a first-rate short-term care score, with a grade of B+. This finished off a very impressive report card. In determining these short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home in Ohio in this area with 60.1 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, at most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
