Registered Staff Hours
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually received an impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. In spite of this deficiency, this was still a relatively positive inspection report.
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. When determining our nursing ratings, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality
Our third area we assessed was long-term care, where this nursing home received an F. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 94.9807 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable total. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at is short-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in that area. Short-term care scores are important for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.4 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below average.
