Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in this area with an A+. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area tend to have few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's more favorable category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B+. It actually outpaced most nursing homes in this area. For prospective residents looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 80.70175 percent of its patients, which is a few points below what we anticipated. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility's next highest area ended up being short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. Our short-term care grades are important for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this facility provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Nurse Quality
The next category we graded was nursing, which turned out to be this facility's least impressive category. Sadly, it received an F for this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. Our nursing grade is based on several data points. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these data points to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
