Registered Staff Hours
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an elite inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. This facility received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B-. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of skill of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This particular facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is significantly below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility received its third highest category grade in the category of short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a C in this category, which is a respectable grade. In determining our short-term care scores, we look at a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is often a useful assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded was long-term care, which turned out to be a low point for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in long-term care. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is an above average datapoint. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
