Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This nursing home received a strong overall grade as described above, but we especially want to point out its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave it an A in this category. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we have information about this nursing home's deficiencies. We would like to have more information about this facility. Without having complete deficiency related data, it was a challenge to fully evaluate the place in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an B+. In determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are caring for residents as well as the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also received a favorable short-term care score. Indeed, we awarded it an above average score of B in this category. Short-term care scores are crucial for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional skilled nursing services. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Moving on to the last category, this nursing home was given an extremely favorable long-term care score. This nursing home didn't turn out to have any real weaknesses. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
