Facility Inspections
Although this facility's overall score was as bad as it gets, it actually fared pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home an C. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Even though this nursing home excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it lagged a bit in certain metrics that related to quality. This nursing home's nursing grade was hurt by poor performance in the area of minimizing pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 14.3 percent of this nursing home's residents sustained pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in this area. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care likely don't provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes provide. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated just 90.64748 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated is short-term care, turned out to be this facility's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a D in this category. Short-term care scores are crucial for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its grade in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the data we looked at. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 33.9 percent of its residents returning home. This was quite a bit below average.
