Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of performing well overall, this nursing home earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with a grade of A+. Inspection grades are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this nursing home's above average category grades came in the category of long-term care. We gave them one of our stronger grades in that category, with a score of B+. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life or death condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The next category we looked at is short-term care. This facility was given a favorable short-term care grade, with a grade of B+ in the category. Our short-term care grade is often employed to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next category we looked at is nursing. This facility received a better than average nursing score this year, with a B. Although this isn't as good as some of its other category grades, this is still one of our more favorable scores for this category. Our nursing score features numerous subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
