In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. There are quite a few criteria included in this category. Most of these factors are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this facility an A- for inspections. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor dings are not necessarily the end of the world.

Turning to another strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our more favorable grades in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. In our short-term care grade, we strive to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

In the last area, this facility also was awarded an impressive long-term care grade, with a B+. This finished off a first-rate report card. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 90.625 percent of its residents. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
