Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home is also above average in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of B+. It outpaced most facilities in this category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is more often than not a fair assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. When we looked at this facility's physical therapist hours, we found it offered more hours of physical therapy per day to its residents than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the nation with 54.6 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, this facility also earned a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average score in this area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After looking at the very impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.26 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this category, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the final category, this nursing home received a decent nursing rating. Even though this is not nearly as good as several of its other scores, this is truly not a terrible score. Our nursing score assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This facility provides an impressive 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a greater quantity of nursing than what is provided by most facilities. Lastly, we also factored some quality measures into our nursing grades. Specifically, we looked at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
