Facility Inspections
On top of being a great facility overall, it also earned A+ government inspections recently. Its inspections are virtually perfect. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category tend to have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Our nursing rating is largely based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving patients at least once a day.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our next area, this nursing home was given first-rate long-term care grade. In fact, it received a score of A- in that category. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 97.637794 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. This nursing home was also able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.36 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
In the last category we graded, this facility received a very favorable grade of A- in our short-term care category. With this grade, the facility wrapped up a straight A profile. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this facility performed much more favorably. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 67.2 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
