Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While this place's overall score was as bad as it gets, it fared pretty well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection scores are based on many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

We also would like to note that this facility received an F for its short-term care score. Our short-term care scores are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Based on its grade in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.5 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. We assessed the levels of nurses at the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses spent with residents, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we graded is long-term care. This facility was given a rock bottom grade of F in that category. Nursing homes that do not score well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 24.404762 percent of its residents. This is multiple points below average. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
