Facility Inspections
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid places that had too many severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. Nursing scores are primarily associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. This facility also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric.
Long-term Care Quality
The third category we analyzed is long-term care. This facility's was given an unfortunate long-term care score where it received a lowly F. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities offer. After we finished looking at the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated just 81.84931 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.43 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we rated was short-term care. This facility was given a very poor grade of F in this area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this place provides far less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical nursing home. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 28.2 percent of its residents returning home.
