Facility Inspections
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a very impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that area with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This nursing home was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's next most respectable score is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still fared somewhat poorly. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We discovered that this nursing home administered the vaccine to only 81.437126 percent of its residents, which is not a very encouraging sign. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.39 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is also concerning.
Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. There are quite a few subcategories within this category. Most of the criteria relate to nurse staffing. This facility provided just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at a few quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place was above average in two of the major metrics we considered, with good scores for avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we graded is short-term care, where this nursing home received a very poor score here also. It received a lowly F for this area, which is definitely somewhat alarming. In our short-term care category, we endeavor to create a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Based on its grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the figures we looked at. Honestly, this was what we expected here. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 32.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
