Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a relatively impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this facility's host of poor scores was its F in the category of long-term care. Facilities that don't fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. After considering the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated just 87.82051 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. The nursing score is based on numerous subcategories. The most important one is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel score. In forming these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. With a score in this range for this category, we were not surprised to find this nursing home was below average in many staffing figures we looked at. The nursing home offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care grade.
