Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Neither this facility's overall score nor its category scores gave us much to write home about. Its best category was nursing, but even there it received just a D. This is still a weak score. The nursing rating is based on a host of datapoints. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection grades where it received an F. This generally means we found some red flags on the inspection reports. When a facility has this bad of an inspection rating, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This particular facility had 11 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was assessed significant government fines recently of more than $50,000. This typically means that government inspectors became frustrated after several years of failed inspections.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care ratings are likely more important for patients requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its grade in this category, we were not surprised to find that this facility was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we scored was long-term care. This facility received a poor grade of F in this category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 72.84768 percent of its residents. This is multiple points below the national average. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
