While this nursing home's overall score was as bad as it gets, it actually fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid nursing homes that have too many deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Our nursing score is largely based on the facility's nurse staffing. This facility offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these datapoints to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Sadly, this facility received an F for its short-term care score. In calculating our short-term care scores, we scrutinize a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is typically a useful assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. With a score of this caliber in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this nursing home was below average in multiple staffing areas we assess. It provided substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.8 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.

The final area we scored is long-term care, where this nursing home was given a very poor score in this area also. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 56.20438 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is quite a bit below the national average. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
