Long-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also fared well in our long-term care category, where it earned an impressive grade of A. Few nursing homes did better in this area. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we rated was short-term care. We awarded this nursing home one of our higher grades in that category, with a grade of B. While this is not as dominant as some of its other scores, it is nevertheless a perfectly acceptable grade. With our short-term care category, we attempt to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final item we looked at in this area is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
