Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 95.68965 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home an A+. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses spent with patients, in computing our score in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Tallying another strong category grade, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it received an A. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In the final category, we awarded this nursing home an A for our short-term care score. This topped off an elite report card. Our short-term care scores are arguably most important for folks needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
