Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were fairly low on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a grade of A- for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's next best category was long-term care, but even there it earned just a D in that area. This is still a relatively poor grade. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 95.43726 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable percentage. Surprisingly, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility's next best score is short-term care. However, with a grade of D in this category, it still performed somewhat badly. In our short-term care score, we strive to create a meaningful measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Considering its abysmal rating in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next area we rated is nursing. This facility received a poor grade of F in that area. The nursing category assesses quite a few data points, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to being below average in nursing hours per resident, this place also had poor scores in the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility was at about 150 percent of the national average in both of these metrics. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
