Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this category. Our inspection grades are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this category. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. The nursing category consists of quite a few factors, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to the last area, this nursing home received a respectable long-term care rating. Even though this is not as good as several of its other grades, this is still not a poor grade. In the area of long-term care, we assess the quantity of services provided by a facility, as opposed to more sophisticated services. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
