One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This facility received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility really excelled in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 91.76137 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is slightly below what we expected but still a decent figure. The last datapoint we assessed was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 1.86 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is close to average in this area.

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. Our nursing grade assesses quite a few factors, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This facility provides only 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below the national average. Although this nursing home ranked poorly in terms of the quantity of nursing care provided, it actually performed admirably in a few of our quality measures. In fact, it was above average in two of the major areas we look at, with favorable scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are good measures of the quality of nursing care offered since many falls and bed sores are preventable.

The next area we scored is short-term care. In this category, we awarded this nursing home an acceptable grade of C. This was this facility's weakest category. Our short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Remarkably, this facility provides its residents with at least 50% more physical therapist hours per week than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 37.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
