Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. We would like to have more data for this nursing home. Without having complete deficiency related data, it ended up being challenging to really grade this facility in terms of this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility received high grades in the area of nursing as well. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. Our nursing rating is largely associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a patient more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, this nursing home also was given favorable long-term care grades this year. In fact, we gave it one of our stronger scores in that category, with a grade of B. For patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 70.35714 percent of its residents, which is a few points less than we expected. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.05 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final category we looked at is short-term care. We gave this facility a C in this category. Our short-term care ratings are arguably most meaningful for folks requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
