On top of performing well overall, this nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it earned one of our best grades in that area with an A+. Inspection scores are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Unfortunately, it does not appear that we have deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility also received a very impressive short-term care grade. Indeed, this turned out to be this facility's second strongest category score. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A. Our short-term care grades are presumably most meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

We also would like to emphasize the fact that this facility was awarded a strong grade of A- in our long-term care area. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

The last area we looked at is nursing, where this facility was awarded a grade of B+. This topped off a very strong report card. Few facilities earned a B+ or higher in in each area we assessed. There are many subcategories within this grade. Many of these subcategories reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
