Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with a grade of A. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's next highest category turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C. Our short-term care ratings are presumably more critical for those requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The final item we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of long-term care, this facility was awarded just a D in this area. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's weakest category was nursing, which is the last area we assessed. For this category, we awarded this nursing home a D. Our nursing rating weighs a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This place provided only 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility was above average in two of the statistics we focus on, with solid scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
