Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's better category grades came in the area of short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this area. Our short-term care grades are presumably most critical for patients in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this facility performed much more favorably. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 65.4 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. In fact, we gave this nursing home an D. There are quite a few subcategories within this category. Many of these factors are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. With just 3 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this place's nurse staffing levels were far below the national average. To pair with its below average totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home had poor marks in many of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents having falls leading to serious injury. This nursing home was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's worst category was long-term care, which is the last category we scored. We gave it an abysmal F in this category. In spite of some decent scores in other categories, this grade is still disappointing so we wanted to make sure you are aware. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated only 90.07633 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
